Work began on the tunnel in 1906, it was completed in June 1907, and it was operated by the Commonwealth Oil Corporation. It was only a single track, with a gauge of 4 feet 8½ inch (1,435 mm) it had a Grade of 1:25

As the Wikipedia article states, the tunnel is 20 chains long, ie, 1,320 feet, or 402.3 metres, and through sandstone. (visit link) It was abandoned in 1932.

The site is now maintained by National Parks and Wildlife Service, as it falls within the Wollemi National Park. Most tourists will approach from Lithgow, on the unsealed Glow Worm Tunnel Road, a distance of about 25 km. Then it is about a kilometre walk from the car park.
