This armory is large in relation to many others. Measuring 198 x 117 feet, the center section has a barrel roof, with the north and south wings having a flat roof. The armory is constructed with red brick, and the use of rusticated and coursed sandstone for embellishment. It was a project of the WPA in 1936.

The cornerstone reads: "State Armory / Built by Works Progress Administration / 1936 / W.S. Key State Administrator". A WPA shield reading 1936 is mounted above an overhead door.

This one-story armory has a total of eight overhead vehicle doors. Limestone has been used in the Art Deco style as quoins, vertical frames for the pilasters, and tops the walls at the roof line on the entire building. The pedestrian entrance is decorative with the use of this sandstone and the brick. There are two metal doors flanked by large embellished side walls. The windows are metal framed casement.

The building is currently in use as there is a covered picnic area on the west side of the building with picnic tables, and vehicles were parked in the open overhead doors.

A write-up on this particular property is shown on the next to last page of the National Register nomination form (link shown below). The armory was placed on the NRHP in 1988.
