Erected around 1400 the Depository Tower marked the north-eastern city limits and is one of the last buildings of the weir system conserved in its original condition.
Debitors, unable to pay their debts were incarcerated here as a deposit. When the city wall was demolished in 1807, the Depository Tower was kept as a prison until mid 19th century.
