This memorial is dedicated to the founder of the LDS church, Brigham Young.
Taken from the guidebook, "2. The BRIGHAM YOUNG MONUMENT, centering the intersection of Main and South Temple Sts., is a heroic bronze figure of the Church leader, on a granite base. Seated at the base is the bronze figure of an Indian facing east, while the figure of a bronze trapper, in a similar pose, faces west. On the south face is a bronze bas-relic of a pioneer man, woman, and child. Another plaque, on the north face, lists the pioneers and equipment making up the main body of Mormon pioneers who arrived in Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847. The twenty-five-foot monument unveiled during the Utah Jubilee in 1897, was executed by Cyrus E. Dallin, Utah-born sculptor." -- Utah: A Guide to the State
