Located at the main entrance to Johnson-Joss Memorial Park is a large plaque monumented on a granite slab that reads:

JOHNSON--JOSS MEMORIAL PARK

ALEXANDER JOHNSON DONATED THE LAND FOR
THE FIRST HIGH SCHOOL, CITY PARK AND
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

LEONARD JOSS, NATURALIST, LANDSCAPED
THE FIRST CITY PARK, PLANTED DIVERSE FLORA
ALL AROUND ETNA.

IN HONOR OF THEIR GENEROSITY WE DEDICATE
THIS PARK IN THEIR MEMORY, SEPTEMBER 1996.

Alexander Morris Johnson lived from 1829 to 1887 and is interred at nearby Etna Cemetery.
