Among Slatinany, Škrovád and Rabštejnská Lhota there are Podhura woods located. These woods are based on rocky ground. The highest spot height is the peak Hura with elevation 392 meters above sea level. Plenty of rocky bassets, formed by different types of minerals, evidences existence of two ancient seas. Unique conservation of some rocky bassets on relatively small area allows us to look into geologic history of Železné hory ("Iron rocks").
The first sea in vicinage of Chrudim coincides with older Paleozoic - Cambriam and Devonian. Rocky bassets in Podhura woods are built by quartzites of Ordovic age (480 millions years). Quartzite is very resistant sediment, which was originally created by quartz grains, later by braced secondary quartz. In Ordovic cold sea there were conserved plenty of organisms and marks of their activities (ichnofosiles). For example trilobites, crinoids and ichnofosiles of filiation Pragichnus or Skolitos.
After dereliction of the first sea, Železné hory was dry land for very long period. There was weathering and soil erosion of minerals from which resistent ordovic quartzites sticked out in form of rocky massif, edge or separate peak. About 90 millions years ago Železné hory was covered by the sea second time due to orogenic movement and subsidence of earth surface. Invasion (transgression) of the second sea coincides with Mesozoic - Cetraceous period referred to as Cenoman.
Breakers of the second sea corroded rocky - quartzites - bedrock. Quartzite blocks were wrought into metre boulders up to centimetre nuggets. Accumulation of boulders, nuggets and cobbles can be found on lickensided quartzite rocks close to north-west cliffs of Podhura (around the east side of the location Na Skalach near to Rabstejnska Lhota). Furthermore we can find here plenty of rocky bassets created just by quartzites of ordovic age. It is a part of Chrudim's older Paleozoic, the age around 570 - 240 millions years. Example of this is Certova skalka ("Devil's little rock") in front of that we stand on initial coordintes. These hard minerals successfully resisted to breakres of the second sea.
