The Stanley Cup is one of the world's best-known sports trophies. On March 18,1892, Lord Stanley of Preston gifted the original Stanley Cup to the game of hockey at an official dinner held at the Russell House Hotel, once located in Confederation Square, steps away from where this replica is located.

La Coupe Stanley est un des trophées sportif les plus emblématiques au monde. Le 18 mars 1892, Lord Stanley of Preston a dédié la coupe Stanley originale au jeu de hockey lors d'un diner tenue au Russell House Hotel,à l'époque située a la place de la Confederation, a quelques pas de l'endroit où se trouve cette réplique.
