Almost directly opposite the Myrtleford Post Office is the bronze statue representing Sergeant 'Alby' Albert Lowerson V.C. (1896 - 1945), a local Myrtleford soldier.

Alby won a Victoria Cross from a skirmish/battle at Mont St. Quentin in France, September, 1918. He was wounded yet again here (his FOURTH). After receiving his Victoria Cross from King George V personally he returned to his home town of Myrtleford, where he became a farmer.
The bronze plaque on the grey granite base of the statue reads:
"This sculpture of Albert David Lowerson VC 1896-1945
was unveiled and Dedicated on Thursday 23rd April 2015 by Tim Fischer AC.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them,
Lest We Forget.
