The Monument of the Holocaust is a seven-panel bronze bas-relief on the theme of the Holocaust to commemorate the tragedy of the Second World War. The artist Arbit Blatas represented the Jews who faced the gas chambers and other forms of Nazi brutality. The seven bas-relief plaques are Deportation, Kristal Night, the Quarry, Punishment, Execution, the Warsaw Uprising, and the Final Solution.
André Tronc was a former member of the French Combatant Forces and Consul General in Venice from 1974 to 1981. His poem is written in French, English and Italian. Here are the French and English versions:
"Hommes, femmes, enfants, troupeau pour crématoires
Cheminant vers l'horreur sous le fouet du bourreau
Votre triste holocauste est gravé dans l'Histoire
Et rien ne chassera vos morts de nos mémoires
Car nos mémoires sont votre unique tombeau"
André Tronc, ancien des Forces françaises combattantes
----
"Men, women, children, masses for the gas chambers
Advancing toward horror beneath the whip of the executioner
Your sad holocaust is engraved in History
And nothing shall purge your deaths from our memories
For our memories are your only grave"
André Tronc, former French Combatant Forces
