This is a large polished brass plaque, carrying the names of 123 men of the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters who were killed in action, died of wounds, drowned on patrol or died of disease during the Boer War, 1899-1902.

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING OFFICERS, NON-COMMISSIONED/ OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE 1ST BATTALION, THE SHERWOOD FORESTERS, (NOTTINGHAMSHIRE AND/ DERBYSHIRE REGIMENT, WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN 1899 - 1902/ THIS BRASS IS PLACED BY THEIR COMRADES IN ARMS OF ALL RANKS/ KILLED IN ACTION/ (NAMES)/ DIED OF WOUNDS/ (NAMES)/ DROWNED ON PATROL/ (NAMES)/ DIED OF DISEASE/ (NAMES)/ IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE 9 OFFICERS, 22 NCOS AND 119 MEN OF THE BATTALION WHO WERE/ WOUNDED DURING THE CAMPAIGN
