This steam-powered tractor engine contains a placard nearby that tells us some history of steam tractors and reads:
Huffing and Puffing: Steam Tractors
New Sounds Fill the Woods
Many thousands of steam tractors were made between the 1880s and the 1920s. While most of them were sold to farmers, the rugged steam tractor became a new force of energy in logging, too. Steam tractors supplied the power to build roads, deliver equipment, and haul logs to and around the mill.
Each advance in machine power meant more trees could be brought efficiently to market from deeper in the forest. As the technology--and business--grew, Klamath forests and mills produced lumber that was used in buildings throughout the Klamath region. Later on, Klamath forest products were shipped nationwide by rail.
I wasn't able to gather any info on this particular make or model of steam tractor. This tractor is connected to an Austin Company road grader. Please allow at least an hour to fully appreciate all there is to offer at this outdoor museum.
