Amersfoort Zoo was opened in 1948.
At the end of the 1960s a railway line was constructed by the park. This drive "The Berenboemel".
The track is 34 centimeters wide. The two locs were built by Schwingel from Leverkusen. Between 1960 and 1985, this company established several Parkeisenbahnen.
The route in Amersfoort has been changed several times. A round trip takes about five minutes and costs one euro.
