As soon as Blasterz walked into Prairie View Cemetery, we knew this was the historic black cemetery in Forney. The weeds are tall, the grass unmowed, and the graves are a mix of humble homemade concrete tombstones with handmade decorations made from cookie cutters, Veteran's Administration military tombstones, and modern professional markers.

Prairie View Cemetery (and Hillcrest, the white cemetery on the other side of town) are relics of Forney's cotton-growing Jim Crow segregationist past. This cemetery tells the story of a separate people, who nevertheless are buried with dignity and even honor, given the large number of veterans here.

A very nice arch now graces the entrance to the cemetery.

The day Blasterz were here we estimated there are about 600 people buried here.
