The tabernacle was designed in a Greek Revival style by Augustus Farnham and construction began in 1857. Work stopped almost immediately as Federal troops marched into the area to take control of the territory. Work was completed in 1863. The church building is of stuccoed adobe brick. Both the building and the steeple are painted a bright white. The steeple is designed as a series of stepped cupolas. The first rises a short way above the roofline. The second is taller and features four plaster columns, two each on either side of a central plaster circle. the third level has a central louver with two plaster columns on either side. A railing rises from its base in the style of a widow's walk. The top layer of the steeple consist of five tall cones, one in the middle and one on each of the four corners. The tabernacle was slated for destruction in the 1970's but was saved due to the efforts of the community.
