Franz Sales Wocheler war ein Pfarrer, Bibliophiler und Stifter der Leopold-Sophien-Bibliothek in Überlingen, der sich über seine Tätigkeit als Geistlicher hinaus sehr für das Wohl der Stadt engagierte. Das Denkmal wurde 1879 auf dem Landungsplatz in Überlingen eingeweiht, wurde dann aber auf den Münsterplatz versetzt.
Aus Dankbarkeit hat ihm die Stadt das Denkmal auf dem Müncterplatz errichtet, mit der Inschrift
'seid immer frohen Mutes'
zu seinem hundertjährigem Geburtstag 1878.

Franz Sales Wocheler was a pastor, bibliophile and founder of the Leopold-Sophien-Bibliothek in Überlingen, who, beyond his work as a clergyman, was very committed to the welfare of the city. The monument was inaugurated in 1879 on the landing place in Überlingen, but was then transferred to the Münsterplatz.
In gratitude, the city erected the monument on the Müncterplatz with the inscription
'always be happy'
to his hundred year anniversary in 1878.
