Napanee Falls is a long, low, gentle cascade about 30 to 40 meters long and 10 meters wide near the mouth of the Napanee River, in the town of Greater Napanee. The river drops 6 meters or so over the course of 20 meters. The falls are comprised of multiple little steps over thinly bedded limestone, giving the illusion of a long, gentle staircase. Likely as a check on erosion, parts of the waterfall have been edged by a concrete wall and concrete riprap.
The falls are located in Spring Side Park. A paved trail runs along side the falls.
This waterfall was used to power a mill in the 1800s. There is still a small dam at the top of the falls, and the rivers edge is walled.
Accessing the falls is very easy. Spring Side Park is only a couple of kilometers from Highway 401.
Greater Napanee is a town in Southeastern Ontario, Canada, approximately 45 kilometres (28 mi) west of Kingston and the county seat of Lennox and Addington County. It is located on the eastern end of the Bay of Quinte. Greater Napanee municipality was created by amalgamating the old Town of Napanee with the townships of Adolphustown, North and South Fredericksburgh, and Richmond in 1999. Greater Napanee is co-extensive with the original Lennox County.
