On April 9, 2009, a devastating tornado struck the town of Mena. This memorial is to all those who suffered loss.

On the grounds of the Polk County Courthouse stands this memorial to those who felt the loss of a tornado that struck Mena on April 9, 2009. This is a granite monument which reads:

This monument serves as a humble reminder
of a tornado that struck our county on
April 9, 2009
forever changing our landscape. While this
may serve as a reminder of how vulnerable
we are to the forces of mother nature, may it
also serve as a reminder of the strength of a
community who arose together to rebuild in
the face of tremendous tragedy and loss.

May we never forget:
3 precious lives lost
Anna Cress
Judy Lobner
Albert Shaw
165 houses destroyed and the families
that called them home
700 homes suffered major damage
Over 11,000 nature trees with diameters
of 2+ feet
