This large abstract sculpture named "Stele" made of stainless steel by H.J. Frielinghaus is located on the campus of the university in the Rotherbaum district of Hamburg and was created in 1978.
Hans-Joachim Frielinghaus was born in Stettin in 1937. After studying philosophy, he studied at Gustavs Seitz University of Fine Arts in Hamburg from 1967 to 1970. 1970-1971 he studied at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1976-1977 he received a scholarship for the Villa Massimo in Rome. Hans Joachim Frielinghaus lives and works as a designer and sculptor in Hamburg. Plastic works are found mainly in the Hamburg area, including at the university.
