Am bayerischen Bodensee gibt es drei evangelisch-lutherische Kirchengemeinden. St. Stephan ist eine davon und für die Ortsteile Insel, Aeschach, Ober- und Unterreitnau zuständig.
Die Stadtpfarrkirche wurde um 1180 erbaut und wurde mehrfach den Zeiten angepasst, bis es in der Zeit des Rokoko sein heutiges Aussehen erhielt. Von außen wurde die schlichte romanische Fassade erhalten.
Wer den Innenraum betritt, dem fällt schnell auf wie hell es ist. Das Licht entsteht durch die zahlreichen und großen Bleiglasfenster an allen Seiten des Kirchenschiffs. Während die Seitenfenster in schlichtem weißen Glas gehalten sind, befinden sich im Altarraum wertvolle Buntglasfenster. Die Wände sind weiß und mit zahlreichen filigranen Stuckornamenten besetzt, die in der Zeit des Rokoko angefertigt worden sind. Das Hauptschiff des Gotteshauses wird durch zahlreiche Rundbögen und Säulen von den Seitenschiffen abgetrennt. Auf halber Höhe etwa befindet sich die Kanzel, die mit wertvollen Schnitzereien verziert ist. Zu beachten ist auch das Chorgestühl aus dunklem Eichenholz, das vor über 200 Jahren hier eingebaut wurde. Die Rückenlehnen lassen sich umklappen, so dass der Gottesdienstbesucher sowohl zum Altar, als auch zur Kanzel blicken kann.
Der langgestreckte Innenraum der Kirche verfügt über eine gute Akustik, so dass hier im Laufe des Jahres immer wieder Konzerte stattfinden.
Die 400 Jahre alte Glocke von Sankt Stephan, die bisher am Kirchturm stand, hat seit 2010 einen neuen Platz neben dem Haupteingang der Kirche erhalten.

On Lake Constance, there are three Evangelical-Lutheran churches. St. Stephan is one of them and responsible for the districts of the island, Aeschach, Ober- und Unterreitnau.
The town parish church was built around 1180 and was adapted several times to its present appearance in the time of Rococo. From the outside, the simple Romanesque facade was preserved.
If you enter the interior, you will notice how bright it is. The light is created by the numerous and large lead-glass windows on all sides of the church ship. While the side windows are kept in plain white glass, precious stained glass windows are located in the altar. The walls are white and decorated with numerous filigree stucco decorations made in the time of Rococo. The main nave of the Gotteshaus is separated from the side ships by numerous arches and columns. Halfway up, the pulpit is decorated with precious carvings. Also note the chorus of dark oak, which was built here over 200 years ago. The backrests can be folded so that the church attendant can look both at the altar and the pulpit.
The church's lengthy interior has a good acoustics, so concerts are held here over the course of the year.
The 400-year-old bell of St. Stephan, which was standing on the church tower, has since 2010 received a new place next to the main entrance of the church.
