As described by the NGS back in 1978 (although already monumented by the CGS in 1955):
"THE STATION IS A STANDARD US COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY BENCH MARK DISK STAMPED---G 460 RESET 1955---, SET INTO THE TOP OF A SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT 12 INCHES ON A SIDE FLUSH WITH THE GROUND. IT IS 61 FEET NORTHWEST FROM THE CENTERLINE OF THE GALVESTON COUNTY ROAD, 28 FEET NORTHEAST FROM A POWER POLE, 2 FEET NORTHWEST FROM A WOODEN WITNESS POST, AND 1.8 FEET NORTHWEST FROM A WIRE FENCE. "
The NGS description is still reasonably accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark, but a few corrections might be in order:
(1) the wire fence is no longer there.
(2) The wooden witness post is actually a carsonite (fiberglass) witness post, and is now flush with the station (not 2 feet away).
More importantly, the NGS' currently posted coordinates ("N 29 08 36.69837 W 095 02 13.52287", or "N 29° 08.612 W 095° 02.225") are 14 feet off from my observations, as measured within 10' accuracy and 10+ reading averages. A previous benchmarker had it at "N 29° 08.614 W 095° 02.225", and I had it at "N 29° 08.613 W 095° 02.225"... both our measurements are more in line with the "28 feet from a power pole" and "61 feet from the road's centerline" description, which the NGS' measurements are not.
The station was recovered in 'decent' condition: it is showing some signs of wear, but still legible.
