DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1963 (VBM) THE STATION IS LOCATED ON A LOW HILL ON BIRCH RIDGE, AT THE SITE OF A SMALL GRAVE YARD. IT IS ABOUT 10 MILES NORTH-NORTHEAST OF THE CENTER OF NEW MARTINSVILLE, ABOUT 2 MILES SOUTH OF THE CONFLUENCE OF FISH CREEK AND OHIO RIVER AND ABOUT 1 MILE SOUTHEAST OF THE EAST BANK OF THE OHIO RIVER. IT IS 3 FEET WEST OF A WIRE FENCE, 30 FEET SOUTHWEST OF A LONE CEDAR TREE AND 6 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE LARGEST TOMBSTONE IN THE CEMETERY. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 2 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED BURCH 1963. TO REACH FROM THE EAST END OF THE BRIDGE OVER THE OHIO RIVER IN NEW MARTINSVILLE, GO NORTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 2 FOR 4.5 MILES TO THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 89 TO THE RIGHT, CONTINUE NORTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 2 FOR 7.25 MILES TO A BRIDGE OVER PIG RUN, CONTINUE NORTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 2 FOR 0.1 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT, BETWEEN A SMALL BRIDGE AND A BUILDING ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO EASTERLY, WINDING UP STEEP SIDE OF HILL FOR 1.35 MILES TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE RIGHT AS DESCRIBED. CONTINUE ON SURFACED ROAD FOR 0.15 MILE CROSSING UNDER HIGH TENSION WIRES, CONTINUE ON SURFACED ROAD FOR 0.3 MILE TO A ROAD RIGHT, TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTHWEST ON UNIMPROVED ROAD FOR 0.2 MILE TO A BARN AND OLD HOUSE, TURN LEFT INTO FIELD JUST BEFORE REACHING BARN AND FOLLOW NORTHEAST ALONG FENCE AND THROUGH FIELD FOR 0.15 MILE TO HIGHEST POINT OF HILL AND THE STATION AT OLD CEMETERY. REFERENCE MARK 1 IS 1.5 FEET EAST OF A WIRE FENCE, 6 FEET SOUTH OF THE LONE CEDAR TREE AND 23 FEET EAST OF THE LARGE TOMBSTONE. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 2 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED BURCH NO 1 1963. REFERENCE MARK 2 IS 1 FOOT WEST OF A FENCE CORNER, 23 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE LARGE TOMBSTONE AND 9 FEET EAST OF A 10 INCH TREE. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 2 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED BURCH NO 2 1963. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS 1 FOOT SOUTH OF A FENCE CORNER, 2 FEET SOUTH OF A WITNESS POST, 11 FEET WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE SURFACED ROAD AND 40 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE INTERSECTION OF THE SURFACED ROAD AND A DRIVEWAY EAST. THE MONUMENT PROJECTS 3 INCHES AND THE DISK IS STAMPED BURCH 1963.

From the junction of State Highway 2 and Burch Ridge Road, 11.85 miles north of New Martinsville, go east on Burch Ridge Road for 1.35 miles to the azimuth mark on the right. The mark is 3.0 feet east of telephone pole number 381/15 and 7 inches west of a wooden brace supporting 3 mailboxes and 3 newspaper holders.
