North of Ernen stand Switzerland's last intact gallows with three columns.

EN: The Ernen gallows is located a few hundred meters north of the village next to a hiking trail at the edge of the forest. It is the last remaining gallows of Switzerland with three pillars.
The three bricked columns are connected by low walls. Previously, horizontal bars were attached atop of the 4.3 meter high columns, on which the condemned were hanged. The gallows were presumably built in 1447 when Ernen was delegated the high criminal court for the whole Zenden (district).
A stone plaque on the southern column recalls the last renovation of gallows and the then judge: "JOSEPHUS SCHVICK PRO TEMPORE JUDEX 1703". The High Court of Ernen officially existed until 1798, but the last execution took place some years before in 1764.
DE: Der Erner Galgen befindet sich einige hundert Meter nördlich des Dorfs neben einem Wanderweg am Waldrand. Er ist der letzte erhaltene Galgen der Schweiz mit drei Säulen.
Die drei gemauerten Säulen sind durch niedrige Mauern verbunden. Früher waren auf den rund 4.3 Meter hohen Säulen horizontale Balken angebracht, an den die Verurteilten gehängt wurden. Der Galgen wurde vermutlich 1447 erbaut als Ernen die Hochgerichtsbarkeit für den ganzen Zenden zugesprochen wurde.
Eine Steintafel an der südlichen Säule erinnert die letzte Renovation des Galgens und den damaligen Richter: "JOSEPHUS SCHVICK PRO TEMPORE JUDEX 1703". Das Hochgericht Ernen bestand offiziell bis 1798, die letzte Hinrichtung fand aber schon 1764 statt.
