From a plaque at the site: "Old City Hall - 1924 - In 1923, voters approved a bond issue for Riverside to construct its first municipality owned city hall. Constructed in the Spanish colonial revival style, this structure served the city government until 1975. Sold by the city in 1976. The building was used for commercial purposed until 1985, when it was purchased and restored by the partnership or Jlubik Marp and Coil local citizens."

The city, which got its name from being close to the Santa Ana River, is the first place in California in which people sold a lot of citrus fruit.
