The Wotan monument behind the Lower Saxony State Museum was created by Friedrich Wilhelm Engelhard from limestone and shows the Nordic god with his wolves Geri and Freki.
1901 it was put up for the first time, 1943 dismantled. Wotan has been back in Hanover since 1987.
Wotan (southern Germanic name, in northern Germanic it means Odin) is the god of war and the dead, but also god of poetry and runes, of magic and ecstasy.
