Over 50 guitars are located in the Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume within the Museum of Pop Culture. One of them is a 1980s Steinberger guitar. A nearby placard reads:

This bass is a long way from its origins

This odd-looking bass, its square body made of a modern graphite-glass-Kevlar composite, seems to be an entirely different instrument from the big, hollow uprights of the 1800s. Like guitar innovators before him, Ned Steinberger bypassed tradition in search of a better instrument. The headless neck design of this bass, which is better balanced, was only the most obvious of its innovations, it is also prized for its advanced electronics and extreme durability.
