Tow ghost signs adorn this former furniture store building (much cleaned up and partially for rent after many decades in 2017). The building contributes to the Downtown Talladega Historic District.
The signs read as follows:
[across the front, very faded]
"GOLDBERG & LEWIS"
[on the E side of the building, very apparent]
"Braswell's Fine Furniture"
Goldberg & Lewis was a 19th century dry goods and mercantile store in Talladega that stayed in business through around the mid-20th century. We were able to find an ad for it in the 22 Mar 1899 edition of the Talladega newspaper Our Mountain Home:
"White and figured pecays and new millinery at Goldberg & Lewis."
