Over 50 guitars are located in the Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume within the Museum of Pop Culture. One of them is a 1957 Gibson Flying V prototype guitar. A nearby placard reads:

Gibson remakes its stuffy image with a wild new syle

".......too stodgy," Gibson president Ted McCarly once said, "so we decided to .... he worked with a local artist, trying "all sorts of weird shapes." A triangle .... producing two tailfins as sharp as a '57 Chevy's. Introduced ... to sell well after about 100 were distributed the model was discontinued .... This particular Flying V is a design prototype; Gibson sent it to the Geib Case .... unusual shape.
