This 12 foot high sculpture of a man carrying a section of steel girder on his shoulder commemorates the history of the area.

This area of Deeside has a long history of steel making, although in recent years this has declined somewhat.
The sculpture was originally sited outside the county council offices in Elowe until the offices closed down. The statue was then temporarily moved to County Hall in Mold.
Because of the history of steel making around Shotton, the town council campaigned for the statue to be moved to Shotton.
The relocation of the sculpture forms part of the Connah’s Quay, Shotton and Queensferry Renewal Area programme.
Funding for the Scheme was received from Shotton Town Council, Flintshire County Council and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The sculpture which reflects Deeside’s heavy industrial past, is located at the junction of Chester Road East and Rowley’s Drive in Shotton.
The area around the steel man has also been improved with the addition of trees, shrubs, lighting and seating.
