The Evangelist is a stainless steel sculpture in the form of a 5' high cross fabricated with a series of flat planes set on a beveled 3' high stainless steel base. The four arms of the cross represents the four evangelist of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Also, the sculpture intentionally suggest the shape of a soaring bird. The sculptor, Caroline Lee, has described the sculpture as "the materialized external form of a kind of spiritual inner life".

A bronze plaque next to the sculpture is inscribed:
