Ce grand lavoir très bien restauré a deux appellations, qui témoignent du passé de Saint-Cannat : la première, officielle, évoque son origine, ce lavoir était avant tout une fontaine couverte, la '' Font Couverte '' du Jardin du Seigneur. En effet, elle était située à l’emplacement d’une terre appelée '' La Seigneurie '', d’où sa seconde appellation, plus populaire cette fois ; c’est à cet endroit que les Seigneurs de Saint-Cannat y avaient leur jardin.

Le lavoir est composé de trois bassins très bas, séparés en deux et munis en leur extrémité d’une grande pierre d’appui, dalle de forme arrondie en partie supérieure, qui pouvait peut-être servir à égoutter le linge. Le premier bassin était exclusivement réservé à l’hôpital et aux contagieux.
