Avant d’être dénommé Pont Vieux par l’usage commun, l’ouvrage était appelé indifféremment pont du Moulin de Clausonne, pont de la Fontanette ou encore Vieux Pont de la Brague.

Selon l’ensemble des sources consultées, ce pont de pierres calcaires hourdées aurait été construit au XVIIème siècle pour désenclaver Biot et « permettre une communication régulière avec Antibes et la plage, d’où sont embarquées les poteries ». Mais, au début du XXème siècle, les véhicules à moteurs se multiplient et le pont devient trop étroit pour ce type de trafic. En 1930, les Biotois demandent un nouveau pont sur la Brague qui, construit parallèlement à l’ancien, sera terminé en 1934. « La part financière communale étant trop élevée, quelques mécènes participèrent par leurs dons à son financement, dont MM. le député Dreyfus et Léon Baelby, directeur du journal « L’intransigeant ». M. Lucien Muratore, ténor, organisa une soirée à l’opéra de Monaco et fit don de l’argent récolté (18 000 francs) à la commune », écrit émile Cheval. Dès lors, le pont devenu Vieux ne fut plus emprunté que par les piétons et le pont « neuf » fut appelé Muratore.
