Agawam has placed a series of Purple Heart Trail markers along the southbound, west side of Main Street. Each marker honors a veteran that received the Purple Heart during their military service.

The purple and white sign contains the image the Purple Heart medal on the left side and the inscription:

Clarence Joseph Andruss was born in Springfield, MA. He was living in the Feeding Hills section of Agawam when he joined the USMC during World War II. He was killed in action on June 18, 1944 while serving with L Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, Second Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force on Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands.
