St. Andrew was a fisherman in Bethsaida on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee and the brother of St. Peter. A disciple of St. John the Baptist, St. Andrew then became an Apostle of Christ, along with his brother. After the death and resurrection of Christ, St. Andrew went to preach the Gospel in Turkey and Greece. He suffered martyrdom by being crucified on an X-shaped cross.
