According to one of the granite plaques at this plaza, it was the dream of Fred and Sue Boettcher to create this memorial to those from Kay County who lost their lives in service to this country. Their dream became a reality due to the generosity of the local businesses and citizens.
The Plaza has two low brick bordered flower gardens on the south along Grand. North of this is a circular concrete area with a fountain. Beyond this to the north is a patio of donated pavers, and at the North is a three-bay brick wall inscribed Veteran's Plaza. On the wall are three polished black granite slabs with the inscription: "We honor those from Kay County who gave their lives in service to their country." Beneath and to each side are the names of 382 veterans.
At the northwest corner is a brick wall with the seals of six branches of the Armed Forces, and a flagpole flying the U.S. flag.
On the brick wall of the building to the west are three polished black granite slabs listing approximately 90 businesses, organizations and individuals who contributed to this endeavor. Also a granite plaque reading: "With gratitude Ponca City Main Street thanks Fred and Sue Boettcher for their vision, generosity and determination to honor veterans of Kay County by creating the Veteran's Plaza."
