This statue of St. Dominic is in Calvary Cemetery on West Lake Road in Erie, PA.
St. Dominic was born in Spain in the twelfth century. After theological studies, Dominic joined the Benedictine Order in 1194. In 1215, he founded his own religious order, the Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominicans. It is believed that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to St. Dominic to reveal the devotion of the Holy Rosary. St. Dominic died in 1221 and was canonized in 1234.
