This is an interesting mural to place here in the Arts district, located only four tenths of a mile from where Oswald was apprehended after he shot President Kennedy and police officer J.D. Tippit on November 22, 1963. Members Only owner, Christian Avanti, had the mural painted in 2016 by Theo Ponchaveli. The idea was to add artwork to the Arts district and acknowledge Oswald's place in Oak Cliff's history -- Oswald lived in two locations here -- while not necessarily paying homage to him: The mural quotes President Kennedy, "Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names." Under the quote is "35th President John F. Kennedy (Assassinated 11-22-1963). Oswald is painted in greyscale, with President Kennedy's quote and the text in black on the yellow splash background behind him. Over Oswald's left shoulder is a hashtag, #MembersOnly, and over his right shoulder is "Oak Cliff 54018 11 23 63", a nod to his mugshot (which said "Dallas Police" and not "Oak Cliff"), with the author's signature below, in red and white.
