Spc. Richard C. Emmons III was a signal support systems specialist assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La. He died on May 31, 2011 at Forward Operating Base Shank, Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds received when his unit was hit with a rocket propelled grenade. He was 22 years old and survived by his mother and stepfather.
