This official state memorial of Texas Pink Granite was erected by the State of Texas in 1964 to honor the various Texas units that fought at the related battles of Chickamauga (19-20 Sep 1863) and Missionary Ridge (25 Nov 1863) during the Chattanooga Campaign of the US Civil War.
Mama Blaster's third Great Grandfather, Amasa Pratt Tourgee Perkins, and his brothers Leander F. and Thomas S. Perkins were all members of the 9th Texas Cavalry, CSA. The 9th Texas Cavalry were NOT here, but the 9th Texas Infantry WAS there.

Here in the great Confederate breakthrough, Texans vied with each other to prove themselves worthy of the fame won by their brothers on other fields.
