The "Kloster Heisterbach" is the remains of a former Cistercian's abbey founded in 1192 and dissolved in 1803. In 1918 The Catholic sister's community "Cellitinnen nach der Regel des hl. Augustinus" acquired the area from the owner at that time and brought back the monastic life.
In May, 1947 construction of a chapel at the entrance of the convent park began. The matron of the monastery Oberin Cleta took over a promise from her predecessor to establish this construction in appreciation of a happy survival of the convent during the war. The promise was written down with the laying of the foundation stone in an enclosed document:
"Da durch Gottes gnädige Fügung in schweren Drangsalen das Kloster unversehrt blieb, wurde gemäß eines Versprechens diese Kapelle zu Ehren des Hl. Herzens Jesu errichtet. Kloster Heisterbach, den 16. Mai 1947"
(„Because by God's merciful stroke of fate the convent remained unscathed in heavy miseries. This chapel was established according to a promise to honour of the Holy heart of Jesus. Heisterbach, 16th of May, 1947")
Seven months later the chapel could be consecrated and serves as the cemetery chapel for the convent since then.
The chapel is built from quarrystone and has a roof from slate. On the roof stands a small bell tower. The preroof rests on four columns.
Above the entrance it was chiselled in stone: "Vor Deinem Thron soll Menschenstreit und Völkerfehde schweigen!"
("Before Your throne human quarrel and national feud should remain silent!")
In 2008 the provincial management of the "Cellitinnen" has applied for the closing of the only 13-headed convention in Heisterbach.
