Before town supplied water, some residences created a private water system with a wind driven well pump and a pressure tank. This windmill fed such a system for one of the show place houses in Florence, Arizona. The house, and its servants quarters were both listed as National Register of Historic Properties locations. Sadly, the house and the separate quarters have succumbed to the ravages of time and neglect while a little of the windmill remains. It is described as a Perkins tower mounted windmill, 30 feet tall. The windmill is part of the Florence Townsite Historic District. The windmill is on private property but is readily accessible from the street.
