Der Klangbaum an der Bonner Waldau ist eine ehemalige, 250-jährige Buche, die zu einer Sitzgelegenheit umgestaltet worden ist. Manfred Hören, Forstwirt des Regionalforstamtes Rhein-Sieg-Erft, hat den Baumstamm ausgehöhlt und künstlerisch bearbeitet, so dass sich ein Erwachsener oder mehrere Kinder in den 1,4 Meter dicken Stamm hineinsetzen können und dabei vom Baum umschlossen sind. Aufgestellt wurde er anschließend hier an der Waldau durch das Haus der Natur. Zum Schutz des Baumes wurde später eine Glaskuppel über den Stamm gebaut.

Seinen Namen verdankt der Baum der ungewöhnlichen Akkustik im Innern des Stamms. Durch die dicken Holzwände und die höhlenartige Innenform sind die Besucher des Baums von der Außenwelt völlig abgeschottet. Geräusche innerhalb des Baums wie ein leises Flüstern oder gar dem Rauschen des eigenen Blutes werden dagegen um ein Vielfaches verstärkt. Dies soll die Besucher entspannen und ihnen einen neuen Blickwinkel auf die Natur eröffnen.
The "Klangbaum" (i.e. sound tree) at the Waldau of Bonn is a former, 250-year-old beech tree that has been transformed into a seating. Manfred Hören, Forestry Director of the forestry of Rhein-Sieg-Erft, has excavated the tree trunk and redesigned it artistically so that one adult or several children can enter the 1.4 meter thick trunk and sit inside surrounded by the tree. It was then set up here at the Waldau by the nature center Haus der Natur. To protect the tree, a glass dome was later built over the trunk.

The tree owes its name of the unusual acoustics inside of the interior of the trunk. Due to the thick wooden walls and the cave-like interior form the visitors of the tree are completely isolated from the outside world. Noises within the tree like a quiet whisper or even the rush of one's own blood are amplified many times. This is intended to give visitors relexation and a new perspective towards nature.
