EN Perched on its rocky hillock, a little upstream of the village, this rural chapel dominates the large orchards of the plain of the Durance.

Its name is in fact "Notre-Dame de Clemence", but the popular tradition has only retained that of Saint-Roch, presumably in memory of the circumstances that led to its construction.

In 1854, a terrible epidemic of cholera born in Marseilles decimated the population of Provence and then ascended along the Durance, and also made many victims in the Embrunais and the Gapençais. But none in the village of Remollon yet well exposed!

It was the same epidemic that gave Jean Giono the setting for his novel "Le hussard sur le toit"

Conducted by the priest Felix Repelin, the inhabitants of the village erect this chapel in thanksgiving to the protection of the Virgin, who was ardently solicited at the height of the epidemic. An inaugural procession placed the statues of the Virgin, Saint Sebastian, patron of the parish, and of course Saint Roch, protector against the epidemics, side by side in the choir.
