A granite monument honoring the heroes of the war on terror has a bronze plaque honoring North Granby resident Army Spc. Richard C. Emmons III who was killed in Afghanistan. The granite monument is inscribed:

The reverse of the monument contains the bronze emblem of the American Legion.

Spc. Richard C. Emmons III was a signal support systems specialist assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La. He died on May 31, 2011 at Forward Operating Base Shank, Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds received when his unit was hit with a rocket propelled grenade. He was 22 years old and survived by his mother and stepfather.

Description of Memorial:
Newer monument on a town green with other memorials as far back as the Civil War. No parking at the very busy intersection but parking is available on the dead end street Park Place.
