Jefferson Elementary School is constructed of yellow brick and has many embellishments. An original school at this location is referenced on a frieze above the entrance showing the dates 1904-1933. The main portion of the current building was constructed in 1934 as a Federal Public Works project.

Above the three openings at the entrance portico on the southeast corner are two panels showing a map of the western hemisphere, embellished with flowers and scroll work. The center frieze has the name of the school with decorative artwork in relief. Above a bay window on the east side are three frieze panels with foliage. A projected window bay on the south side has an intricate bas relief frieze as a squared arch to the window unit. This frieze has flowers and vines with a centered harp.

The building architect was Hugh W. Brown, Jr. and the building was constructed by Cowen Construction Company. A great deal of attention was paid to beauty when building this school.
