The sculpture recognizes the 3,000,000 Americans (including 55,000 New Mexicans) who made up the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and 1940s.

These young me served as Roosevelt's "Tree Army". They worked on conservation projects throughout New Mexico planting forests, controlling erosion, enhancing parks, and building roads, dams and bridges.

The sculpture was unveiled in 2009 and is located at the base of the steps with lead to the State Capitol.
