"Pennsylvania’s State Forest Lands
In order to conserve and maintain Pennsylvania’s Forest Resources for the people of the Commonwealth, including genertions yet to come, Forest Management Plans have been developed. These plans set forth policies and objectives for all forest resources, coordinate their use and reduce conflict between users. Resources considered in these plans include water, wildlife, timber and minerals, along with the aesthetic, natural and historic value of the land.
The State Forests of Pennsylvania are indicated on the map below.
Numerous Natural Areas have been set aside to preserve unusual natural features. Some examples are listed below and are located on the map.
A. SWEETROOT, has a virgin stand of hemlock surround by a second growth of mixed oak forest.
B. ROARING RUN, is a mountain stream valley with second and third growth mixed forest.
C. LITTLE JUNIATA, encompassed by a water gap, caused by a major geological action millions of years past.
D. MARION BROOKS, is a mountain bog with white birth and mixed oak laurel forest.
E. PINE LAKE, a high mountain bog with classic forest zonation."
