FR Construite au moyen-âge, la chapelle Sainte-Marguerite fut rénovée en 1934 afin d'y abriter le corps du lieutenant Coste tué à Verdun en 1917. A la fin des années 80, le cercueil fut ouvert et pillé. Les restes du lieutenant reposent désormais dans une tombe à proximité.

La chapelle Sainte-Marguerite était la chapelle du quartier Sainte-Marguerite, qui comprenait en plus de ce lieu-dit (où se trouvent encore plusieurs fermes et habitations) Régusse et Petit Plan.

D'après l'abbé Aillaud :
« Elle fut reconstruite plusieurs fois au cours des siècles ; elle formait autrefois, avec ses terres attenantes, le prieuré rural de Sainte-Marguerite. Avant le quinzième siècle, ce dernier avait donné son nom au fief qui se trouve à quelque cent mètres au-dessus et qui appartenait aux Bénédictins de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. Ce fut le 11 juillet 1408 que ceux-ci, d'après les anciennes chartes, avaient fait l'union de ce prieuré à la sacristie de leur église. Ils en retiraient les bénéfices et la dîme dont la perception donna lieu à un long procès entre ses prieurs et ceux de l'église de Pierrevert.

Cette chapelle, où l'office religieux n'avait cessé de se faire durant toute l'époque révolutionnaire, par M. Raspaud, prêtre vivant dans le quartier, prédicateur distingué en langue provençale, curé à Beaumont, puis à Cucuron, fut abandonnée quelques années après le rétablissement du culte et servit de grenier à foin.

Le marquis de Montaigu, possesseur des terres de Régusse, la céda à la fabrique de l'église paroissiale de Pierrevert en 1858. Réparée et bénite, elle fut confiée à un ermite du nom de Claude qui en fut le gardien jusqu'à sa mort en 1903. L'office divin y était célébré quelquefois durant l'année, particulièrement le jour de la fête de Sainte-Marguerite (le 20 juillet) avec un grand concours de fidèles ; mais cette fête dégénéra plus tard en réjouissances mondaines et elle fut supprimée. Ainsi mutent les plus antiques monuments, ainsi s'éteignent avec la religion les traditions les plus vénérables de nos pères, les plus pieux souvenirs du temps passé."

Elle a été une première fois restaurée en 1934 pour honorer la mémoire du lieutenant Edouard Coste, tué à Verdun le 20 août 1917, à l'âge de vingt six ans. Le corps du lieutenant y reposait dans un cercueil. La chapelle qui était ouverte fut vandalisée à la fin des années 80. Comme le raconte l'historien Marc Donato :" la première fois que j'y entrai, le cercueil était ouvert; la seconde fois, le crâne et les médailles avaient été volés ; la troisième fois, il ne restait que trois côtes !!!!". La chapelle est désormais fermée et les quelques restes du lieutenant Coste reposent dans une tombe entretenue par le Souvenir Français, à côté de la chapelle.

La chapelle a été rénovée récemment et sert maintenant de lieu d'exposition lors de diverses manifestations dont "les nuits photographiques de Pierrevert".
