Only fragments of the stem and base are of the 12thc. These were discovered during the demolition of the nave. Along the base in Roman characters is carved: + TEMPORE: LA...AMANNI : SANTI (sic). From the style of the lettering, the inscription appears to be of the early 17thc (VCH, 229). The stem is plain and tapers slightly toward the base. It was broken and has been repaired. The base is chamfered to the top edge and, although this is much worn, traces of a double row of cable ornament can be discerned, one at the bottom and one where the chamfer meets the vertical.
Approximate Age of Artefact: 12th century in parts
