FR Le Poil est une commune associée de Senez et une ancienne commune française, située dans le département des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence en région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

Elle est rattachée sous forme d'association à Senez en 1974, même si elle ne dispose pas de limite commune.

Géographie
Le Poil est situé à 1250 m d'altitude, dans le massif du Montdenier. La commune avait une superficie de 27,80 km²

Histoire
La localité apparaît pour la première fois dans les chartes en 1056. Son nom s’écrivait le Poir jusqu’au xixe siècle. Les Castellane en était seigneurs du XIVe au xviie siècle.

Jusqu’au xxe siècle, les habitants du Poil cultivaient la vigne dans les communes voisines (notamment Mézel) et emportaient le raisin dans la montagne pour y fabriquer leur vin.

Par arrêté préfectoral du 24 septembre 1973, la commune de Le Poil est rattachée, le 1er janvier 1974, à la commune de Senez sous la forme d'une fusion-association.

Le village a été déserté dans les années 70. Une association culturelle a entrepris la rénovation de plusieurs bâtiments.

Démographie
L’histoire démographique du Poil est marquée par une période d’« étale » où la population reste relativement stable à un niveau élevé. Cette période dure de la fin du xviiie siècle à 1856. L’exode rural provoque ensuite un mouvement de recul démographique, à la fois rapide et de longue durée. Dès 1906, la commune a perdu plus de la moitié de sa population par rapport au maximum historique de 1836. Le mouvement de baisse ne s'interrompt ensuite plus, et dans les années 1970, la commune est pratiquement dépeuplée et fusionnée avec Senez.

Culture et patrimoine
Le village, le château et l'église Saint Laurent sont en ruines

Deux maisons sont actuellement restaurées au Poil, dont l’une portant la bannière du Poil.

Personnalités liées à la commune
Violette Ailhaud, écrivain et paysanne est née en 1835 au Saule Mort un hameau du village du Poil. L'homme semence est un récit vécu dans le village et écrit en 1919.

Geography

History
The locality appears for the first time in the charters in 1056. Its name was written Poir until the nineteenth century. The Castellane was lords of the fourteenth to the seventeenth century.

Until the twentieth century, the inhabitants of Le Poil cultivated vines in the neighboring communes (notably Mézel) and carried the grapes to the mountains to make their own wine.

By a prefectural decree of 24 September 1973, on 1 January 1974, the commune of Le Poil was attached to the municipality of Senez in the form of a merger-association.

The village was deserted in the 1970s. A cultural association undertook the renovation of several buildings.

Demographics
The demographic history of the Coat is marked by a period of "spread" where the population remains relatively stable at a high level. This period lasted from the end of the eighteenth century to 1856. The rural exodus then provoked a demographic retreat, both rapid and long-lasting. Since 1906, the municipality has lost more than half its population compared to the historic maximum of 1836. The downward movement is no longer interrupted, and in the 1970s the town was virtually depopulated and merged with Senez.

Culture and heritage
The village, the castle and the Saint Laurent church are in ruins

Two houses are currently restored to the Coat, one of which has the banner of the Coat.

Personalities linked to the commune
Violette Ailhaud, writer and peasant was born in 1835 in Saule Mort a hamlet of the village of Poil. The man seed is a story lived in the village and written in 1919.
