First built in the Middle Ages, the belfry of Armentières was destroyed by order of Louis XI, before being rebuilt in 1510. It was later integrated into the Town Hall in 1724, after important works Undertaken by the aldermen. The belfry was then an outward symbol of power and prosperity.
Once again destroyed in 1918 during the First World War, the belfry of Armentières was completely rebuilt by the architect Louis Marie Cordonnier. The new building was inaugurated in 1934, after nine years of work.
Architecture
In neo-Flemish style, the belfry of Armentières also bears traces of its medieval history. Made of white stone and brick, it culminates at a height of 67 meters3 and offers a panoramic view of the surroundings up to 30 kilometers to the round.
Carillon
A wooden staircase of 96 steps allows access to the carillon, consisting of 11 bells, including a large bronze bell weighing 1,220 kg. It makes resonate every hour the air of When Madelon ....

D'abord construit au Moyen Âge, le beffroi d'Armentières fut détruit sur ordre de Louis XI, avant d'être rebâti en 1510. Il fut ensuite intégré à l'Hôtel de Ville en 1724, à l'issue d'importants travaux entrepris par les échevins. Le beffroi constituait alors un symbole extérieur de puissance et de prospérité.
De nouveau détruit en 1918 lors de la Première Guerre mondiale, le beffroi d'Armentières fut entièrement reconstruit par l'architecte Louis Marie Cordonnier. Le nouvel édifice fut inauguré en 1934, après neuf années de travaux.
Architecture
De style néo-flamand, le beffroi d'Armentières porte également des traces de son histoire médiévale. Réalisé en pierre blanche et en brique, il culmine à une hauteur de 67 mètres3 et offre une vue panoramique des environs jusqu'à 30 kilomètres à la ronde.
Carillon
Un escalier en bois de 96 marches permet d'accéder au carillon, constitué de 11 cloches, dont notamment une grosse cloche de bronze pesant 1 220 kg. Il fait résonner chaque heure l'air de Quand Madelon....
